Lite-Drains as strips (Lite-Strips) or nets (Lite-Nets) are available in 2 basic versions: long-lasting polypropylene or biologically degradable raw material such as wood fibre. As these nonwovens contain up to approx. 90% open and interconnected voids, they can drain air and water very well on the one hand and additionally serve as a water reservoir. The installation is very simple. http://lite-soil.com/en/products/
Lite-Strips for green roofs results in low weight. According to research carried out by the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU) Lite-Strips retain 8 times more water per kg than conventional products (e.g. LECA).
Extensive underground irrigation and aeration are guaranteed by using Lite-Nets.
In contrast to extensive retentive nonwovens the whole amount of retained water is available for the plants, as the roots can dock on laterally and on the bottom of the nonwoven net. In particular with thicker roof structures it is of advantage that the Lite-Net can be installed at any level adjusted to the depth of the roots. The big openings in the net allow root penetration. In addition, the roots can cling to the Lite-Net. The results are persistent green spaces.
For Irrigation of sports fields (golf courses, football ground, riding area and lawns Lite-Strips - mainly as a water reservoir - as well as Lite-Nets - mainly for water distribution - are used for optimised persistent vegetation in these places. Both versions can be mixed 3-dimensionally into the top soil layer which is approx. 30cm.
With Lite-Nets an effective underground irrigation of the roots is guaranteed in a very easy way.
For aerating the lawns (e.g. golf courses) the Lite-Strips are inserted vertically into the underground. Water and air from the surface are discharged in the subsoil through the open voids of Lite-Strips. This process reduces the roots’ felting so they grow at a deeper level. By transmitting the water quickly from the surface to the soil the effects of water-logging and evaporation are reduced. The voluminous Lite-Strips with their extremely high water storing capacity supply the plants in the long term and the intervals for artificial irrigation are extended significantly.
This innovative technology of aeration offers long-lasting benefits.
Lite-Strips are used in raised planting beds, particularly for their high water storing capacity. The installation of Lite-Nets – lifted on both sides – allows an extensive underground irrigation and aeration in a simple way. The results of these applications are persistent plant growth and lush plants
