Kärcher makes its municipal vehicle fleet fit for the future. The new MC 80 sweeper has a modern, environmentally friendly drive that complies with the exhaust emissions values of the strict STAGE V exhaust emissions standard – EU-wide requirement for registration from 2019. The one-seater was developed as a pure vacuum sweeper and combines powerful cleaning performance with a high level of driving comfort as well as simple operation and maintenance.
Together with the compact design and the articulated version with inner turning radius of only 910 mm, the MC 80 can be used primarily on footpaths and everywhere where it is too narrow for larger machines. The long wheelbase of 1500 mm ensures stable driving performance despite high manoeuvrability.
The sweeping width can be flexibly adapted up to 1630 mm. With an optional third side brush, the maximum width is 2240 mm. It also allows easy sweeping under park benches or at different levels, e.g. on the pavement. What is unusual in this device class is a weed brush that is also offered as an accessory. Weeds can be removed, swept up and vacuumed in one step.
The two brush arms can be swivelled sideways as well as raised and lowered. Even sweeping close to corners and edges, e.g. at hedges or fences, is possible without any problems. The 800 litre waste container permits longs, uninterrupted work intervals.
The suction power is set and adjusted as required in three stages via the engine speed. The suction channel and the turbine are CFD-optimised. This means that the air flow has been calculated with computer models (CFD = Numerical Flow Simulation) and checked in practical tests. The result is excellent suction power already in low speed ranges with simultaneously low operating noise, which plays a big role in inner city operations.
The all-round glazing of the fully enclosed cab provides a clear view for safe driving and work. With a spatial volume of 1.45 m³ it is the largest in its class. The user sits over the front axle and has a constant view of the sweeping brushes.
The intuitive operation is based on fittings that are already used in the larger sister model MC 130. Central functions are combined on a rotary switch. The colour and clear multifunction display is positioned on the cab frame at eye level, thus always in view for the driver. The individual control of the broom is effected comfortably via two joysticks. Self-explanatory symbols facilitate the setting and adjustment of important operating parameters such as the suction power or the brush speed. Via a speed-dial key the operator can make use of stored settings and start work immediately.
Kärcher attached huge importance to ergonomic equipment. The driver cabin has four bearings to reduce vibrations. The seat has lumbar support for a healthy and fatigue-free posture and cushioned armrests that can be adjusted in height, laterally and lengthwise. This is unique in this device class. The independent association "Aktion gesunder Rücken e.V." (AGR) awarded the MC 80 its seal of quality for the design, for particularly back-friendly solutions. Effective ventilation, a drinks holder, a document compartment and two USB charging sockets complete the equipment. Two LED working lights illuminate the area in front of the vehicle as bright as day during sweeping so that applications are also not a problem at dusk or night.
The MC 80 vacuum sweeper uses the same platform and many components as well as various other implement carriers from Kärcher. The consistent common part strategy within the municipal machine range simplifies service when there are several models in one fleet. The costs for training the operating and maintenance personnel also remain low.
