In Veitshöchheim master gardeners are trained for more than 100 years. As early as in 1902 landscape gardening subjects are found in the curriculum of the former royal school for wine-growing, fruit-growing and horticulture.

Since 1972 , when the school for landscape gardener technicians was established, more than 1800 master landscape gardeners and technicians completed school. The master landscape gardener is passed within a traditional one-year- course and the landscape gardener technician is passed within a two-years-course. Besides that since 2002 the master landscape gardener may be completed within a 15 month Internet – course. This is till now the only course for landscape-gardeners with all online-lessons as live-lessons to be attendet at the private work-station. For this achievment the Veitshöchheim Internet-course was awarded with the innovation-medal at the GaLaBau trade fair in Nuremberg in 2004.

On top of it the Veitshöchheim landscape gardener technicians and the master landscape gardeners gain additionals qualifications like security commissioner, commissioner for dangerous goods, special training on the power-saw, or the licence for fork-lift-trucks.

The landscape gardener technician obtains special certification to continue with studies in landscape gardening or landscape architecture. Soon the landscape gardener technician acquires credits for a bachelor course of studies at the technical college Wiesbaden-Geisenheim. This will reduce time of studies up to 3 terms.

The education for master landscape gardeners and technicians participates deeply of the results of our research. You will find our public relation at our Veitshöchheim landscape management days, at trade fairs and horticultural exhibitions as well as in publications in specialist periodicals and professionel discourses.

Our results for your practice

Already 100 years ago some documents prove experimental action in Landscape Gardening within the episcopal garden of Veitshöchheim. Since then our business is research for practice in landscape management, consulting professionals in landscape-gardening and continued education for master landscape gardeners and technicians.

In 1989 the Bavarian Ministry for Agriculture and Foresty established an independent department of landscape management at the LWG. Nowadays this institution operates with 4 divisions “research coordination and research management”, “nature and landscape”, “urban greening”, and “economy, management and landscape planning”.

We are landscape gardeners, landscape architects, landscape managers, biologists, geologists, agriculturists and forest scientists and since more than 30 years we develop solutions to start up, to grow and to cultivate efficient green spaces in settlement areas and open fields. Greening of extensive locations like roof planting, facade planting, roadside planting and establishment of vegetation on surface layers is our most important orientation. This contributes to climate conservation. Current projects are vegetation in paving joints, on roofs and walls, mixtures of seeds, mixed plantings for garden, park and open fields, conservation of golf and sports ground turf, greening in vineyards, refreshing of open orchard meadows, autochthonous woody species, infiltration of rain water with plants in infiltration swales and surface layers, clean waters in pools and wastewater treatment wetlands and irrigation of vegetaion areas.

The results of our research obtained admission to technical norms and general construction guidelines and addresses planners and constructors in landscape gardening. The education for master landscape gardeners and technicians participates deeply of the know-how of our engaged research engineers and master landscape gardeners. Our research institution is officially certified for professional training in landscape gardening.
