GreenSpaces is a web-GIS application for the efficient and responsible management of urban green areas. GreenSpaces is a tool to have an up-to-date and detailed census of all elements within the green areas. To improve the safety of green areas, GreenSpaces includes tree stability assessments and inspections of play equipment. It provides for the planning of work on all assets and the related reporting, management of non-conformities and issues.

This makes it possible to manage work transparently, calculate precise management costs and involve all stakeholders (owner of the asset, manager, service companies, professionals, etc.). GreenSpaces Mobile allows you to manage certain operations directly in the field: tree  and playground inventory, tree assessments and playground inspections, nonconformities and issues with photos, description and location on a map; consult work orders and confirm the execution of activities in the field or plan their rescheduling.

GreenSpaces is available in different versions and the workflows can be customised to specific needs of each client. Over 200 clients are using it in several countries.

The ENVIRONMENT Modules help city administrations, companies and professionals who manage public green spaces to integrate the environmental value in their activities of care and maintenance. The three ENVIRONMENT Modules build upon each other.

• METEO Module: Maintenance activities in the field are highly dependent on weather conditions. This additional module for GreenSpaces allows to plan activities more efficiently based on a weather dashboard that shows hourly data and 72-hour forecasts on precipitation, temperature, humidity, wind, evapotranspiration, solar radiation.

• BENEFITS Module: Daily values of ecosystem services are calculated for more than 150 different species and varieties of trees and shrubs, when the BENEFITS Module is activated: CO₂ absorbed, sequestrated and stocked, PM_2,5 e PM₁₀ deposited, water transpired as well as energy saved for air cooling. In addition, this module includes the functions described in the METEO module.

• WATER Module: Water needs of trees are calculated and targeted irrigation activities can be properly scheduled. In its calculation, the tool takes into consideration the parameters of the plant (species, age, growth site), the weather conditions (past, present and 72-hour forecasts) and any previous irrigations. This module includes the functions described in the METEO and BENEFITS modules.

The module activates the tools necessary for advanced job management, giving the possibility to schedule jobs at a specific date and time and assigning them to specific users or teams. If combined with the METEO module, the calendar allows optimisation of job planning, taking into account weather forecasts. The WORKS Module allows:

• Easy scheduling of maintenance and care activities
• Smart work scheduling check (considering distance between jobs and weather conditions)
• Team management and monitoring
• Flexibility in managing contractors
• Cost controlling

Green City is an additional module of GreenSpaces to improve citizen participation.

Strategies for urban adaptation to the increasing number of heat waves, droughts, heavy rainfall and wind gusts cannot succeed without citizen participation.

A public portal highlights in real time the main benefits of urban trees: for example, the amount of particulate matter that trees in a park remove yearly from the atmosphere. This and other information can also be displayed for an individual tree. Descriptions of the most common tree species and their environmental benefits complete the picture.

• Citizens are informed through a public portal about the city green areas, including detailed information about trees, assets and playgrounds
• Possibility to visualise the tree inventory of an urban green area on an interactive map
• If combined with the BENEFITS module, the ecosystem services, that are calculated on a daily and annual basis for more than 150 different species and varieties, will be displayed in the public portal
• If the BENEFITS module is not enabled, data on ecosystem services can be integrated on the portal for any species and will be calculated with the i-Tree Eco model as a separate service

NFC Tag is a system to uniquely identify assets in the field and improve the traceability of inspections and activities.  An NFC Tag does not require an energy source and contains a unique code that can be read by devices equipped with an NFC reader. This technology is often used to identify equipment in the field by simply touching the back of the smartphone or tablet to the NFC Tag. The equipment card can be associated with an NFC Tag through the GreenSpaces Mobile App.

After this procedure, any activity related to that equipment can be traced, ensuring the correct association and documenting the fact that the operator has been in the field. GreenSpaces Mobile already includes all the necessary functions. The asset is identified precisely and univocally, ensuring that the information is registered on the correct equipment form.
