The smart way to measure outdoors

The idea of a digital as-built measurement grew up on the construction site. How the days were cursed on which one had to measure the building site in wind and weather. The notes flew through the garden, the rain made the plans illegible and then you forgot the tape measure... A digital solution was needed. But after extensive research, we found that so far there was no suitable tool for solving our problems.

So in November 2019, we founded the start-up LUMA Landscape United Measurement App GmbH and started to develop smart to plan. For the programming of the app, consulting and marketing, we were able to win THIS IS DMG! from Hanover, who were immediately enthusiastic about our idea.

However, the road to a functional measurement app was longer and rockier than expected. The first measurement attempts turned out to be disastrous that we thought about giving up not only once.

It took almost a year until we were able to achieve comparable results with the app as with a manual measurement with tape measure, pencil and paper. From here on, we could breathe a sigh of relief. We programmed further functions of the app, which we had worked out in the meantime. Because from the initial idea of recording garden areas by cell phone, the idea had grown to be able to create and edit complete projects.

Our goal was and is to make work easier and to digitize work processes.

In May 2021, we had finally achieved our goal. The app could now be officially purchased in the App Store (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/smart-to-plan/id1536729126) and Google Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lumaapp.smarttoplan).

Thanks to our app smart to plan, time-consuming manual measurements are now a thing of the past. With the app, it will no longer be a problem to measure unclear, angled or uneven surfaces. The finished measurement can be sent directly as DXF and PDF, thus no time-consuming step of transferring the manual measurement into a CAD program is necessary. This saves an enormous amount of time that can be used elsewhere.

smart to plan is an app designed by landscape gardeners for landscape gardeners, but the app is also used in other construction trades such as civil engineering and irrigation companies.

• Integration of the LiDAR sensor for precise distance measurement between two points (so far only in iPhone 12 pro (Max) and iPad 11 pro)

In addition to the app, we provide the WebApp, which facilitates editing and management of projects in the office. Hence, projects can be organized and managed conveniently from the computer or laptop in the office.
Due to the immediate synchronization, the foreman/ forewoman on the construction site directly sees the new work order and can measure the required areas. The completed measurement including additional information is synchronized to the WebApp so that work can be continued directly in the office.
