ORIGIN AND SPREAD: Japan

CHARACTERISTICS: acid-loving, deciduous shrub, blooming profusely with small, white flowers at the beginning of April which are followed by a new brilliant, light green vegetation turning bright red in autumn.

CARE: loves well-drained, acid soils; keep in semi-shade, treat with an insecticide in spring.

PRUNING: after flowering up until October.
