Preparations in full swing for GaLaBau 2020

From 16 to 19 September 2020, GaLaBau, the leading international fair for the design, construction and maintenance of urban, green and open spaces, will open its doors at Exhibition Centre Nuremberg for the 24th time. The scheduled break in the event cycle in 2019 offers the ideal opportunity to implement some new features for the next round of the gathering for the landscape gardening sector. These changes range from a modified hall configuration to a new product group “Private garden equipment and furniture” and an extended supporting programme. Start-ups from the landscaping and gardening sector will have the opportunity to be part of the special International Start-up Area. Around 1,300 exhibitors and 72,000 trade visitors are expected to attend GaLaBau 2020. The honorary sponsor and founding father of GaLaBau is the BGL, Bundesverband Garten-, Landschafts- und Sportplatzbau e.V. (Federal Association for Gardening, Landscaping and Sports Ground Construction). A permanent highlight of the event is the special display area Garten[T] Räume (Garden of Dreams), which is integrated into the BGL stand and provides a comprehensive overview of various trends in gardening and landscaping.

GaLaBau 2020 is now out of the starting blocks, exhibitor documentation is available online and the registration phase has got off to an extremely successful start. With preparations in full swing, Stefan Dittrich, Director of GaLaBau at NürnbergMesse, is full of optimism about the next event in just under a year: “During the break in the GaLaBau cycle, we always work especially hard to step up our game for the next event. And we have come up with some very promising new features for 2020: Hall 3 will be replaced by the ultra-modern Hall 3C, which opened just recently. This offers exhibitors completely new development potential. In addition, our “Private garden equipment and furniture” area covers a product category that will again ensure growth in exhibitor and visitor numbers. And that is by no means all! The registration process has been going on for just under five months now, and the latest figures make us very optimistic. We are also pleased to note that we are growing stronger and stronger in terms of international participation in particular.

So it’s “all systems go” for GaLaBau 2020. It is the world’s most comprehensive exhibition for the design, construction and maintenance of urban, green and open spaces. The trade visitors consist of contractors for horticultural, landscaping and open space design and construction, landscape architects, planners from federal, regional and municipal authorities, and retailers of motorised equipment and agricultural machinery. GaLaBau is perfectly complemented by an extensive range of products and services for operators of leisure parks, camping grounds and kindergartens as well as for building, maintaining and managing golf courses.

Economic situation of the gardening and landscaping sector in Germany and the rest of Europe

The economic prospects in the gardening and landscaping sector in Germany and the rest of Europe continue to be good despite the general economic downturn. “In Germany alone, gardening and landscaping firms earned revenue of around EUR 8.41 billion in 2018 and achieved a year-on-year increase in sales of 6.8 percent. This is clear proof of the ongoing positive performance of the gardening and landscaping sector, which shows that demand for gardening and landscaping services is not abating, but on the contrary is increasing. So we remain optimistic that firms operating in the gardening, landscaping, and sports ground construction sector will continue to be a strong economic driver in the future and will enjoy good future prospects,” says BGL President Lutze von Wurmb.

New features at GaLaBau 2020

Both logistically and thematically, GaLaBau 2020 will offer some new features. The relocation from Hall 3 to the recently opened award-winning Hall 3C provides exhibitors with more amenities and better development potential. Another drawcard for new exhibitors is the product group “Private garden equipment and furniture”. This area covers all products for gardens and patios such as furniture, decoration, lighting, privacy and wind screens and pools, with a particular focus on outdoor kitchens and barbecues. There will also be a detailed supporting programme on the topic of lawn maintenance. Another new component is a forum devoted exclusively to presentations by exhibitors, which provides an additional platform for delivering content.

Other highlights of GaLaBau 2020

Alongside all the new features, popular established formats from previous years will naturally be making another appearance. Regular highlights include the GaLaBau Landscape Talks Forum and the BGL stand with Garten[T]Räume area (Garden of Dreams) and GaLaBau Expert Forum. The two special shows on playground and leisure facility design and on arboriculture, as well as the Jobs Board, are also an integral part of the event. Also back in 2020 are the two outdoor attractions: the demonstration area with its live demonstrations of mowing, excavating and shredding, as well as the popular Landscape Gardener Cup, the nationwide skills competition in which the best landscape gardening trainees from all German states put their professional expertise to the test in a contest to become the “German Championship Team”.

Registration for special International Start-up Area

Recent start-ups from the gardening and landscaping sector should take the opportunity to be part of the special International Start-up Area at GaLaBau 2020. Participating in a trade fair continues to be one of the most effective marketing measures, because the resulting personal contact with customers, industry experts and competitors makes them successful events for networking and doing business. To be eligible to participate, companies need to be less than five years old and employ fewer than 20 people. Interested companies should contact Bettina Wild, tel.: +49 911 86 06-81 78, or email: bettina.wild@nuernbergmesse.de.

Review GaLaBau 2018

The 23rd round of GaLaBau impressed across the board. With 1,253 exhibitors, 25 percent from outside Germany, and a new record of 72,005 trade visitors (up 12.3 percent on 2016), GaLaBau 2018 was a resounding success. It showcased the entire range of solutions for the design, construction and maintenance of urban, green and open spaces and yet again reinforced its position as the leading international fair for gardening and landscaping and the maintenance and construction of sports grounds, golf course and playgrounds.
