GaLaBau 2022: eager anticipation of industry reunion
Meeting one another in person again and making new contacts, trying out products and finding solutions, sharing ideas and gaining knowledge: GaLaBau offers all this and more! The 24th round of the leading international fair for urban green and open spaces will take place at Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 14 to 17 September 2022. Around 1,100 exhibiting companies, service providers and organisations from 34 countries will showcase their innovations in 14 exhibition halls.
The theme of the trade fair is “Working together for a climate-friendly future”: The GREEN-BLUE PATH at the venue puts the spotlight on various approaches and ideas relating to climate protection. At the exhibitor stands, but also in the accompanying supporting programme, visitors will find about new and innovative products and solutions for gardening, landscaping and the construction and maintenance of sports grounds, playgrounds and golf courses. “After a long time with no personal encounters, there is huge excitement about the forthcoming GaLaBau among the organising team and our exhibitors! We are all looking forward to reuniting with old friends and forging new business relationships, sharing ideas and gaining inspiration,” says Stefan Dittrich, Director GaLaBau at NürnbergMesse. “Trade fair visitors want to compare and try out machines and equipment and see them live in action, because only on-site presentations can give a genuine sense of products and materials. In the last four years, countless innovations have been developed and a lot of new products launched on the market, so our exhibitors are keen to finally introduce them to the trade fair audience.”
Ideal prospects for the landscaping and gardening sector in Germany
According to the 2021 annual statistics from the BGL (German Association for Gardening, Landscaping and Sports Ground Construction), the institutional sponsor and founder of GaLaBau, all key economic indicators continue to point to a positive development in the sector. The growing need for more green spaces has also had a favourable impact on the performance of companies from the gardening and landscaping sector, whose revenue increased by more than three percent to €9.68 billion (€9.38 in 2020) and is set to grow even more. Moreover, the number of people working in the industry, including young people, skilled specialists and other personnel, has grown meanwhile to more than 129,000 (123,678 in 2020).
THE GREEN-BLUE PATH points the way to a climate-friendly future!
The expansion of green infrastructure in cities, increase in suitable tree populations, development of climate-resilient plants and proliferation of sustainable, resource-conserving garden concepts are all crucial to meeting the challenges of climate change. In this context, the gardening and landscaping sector is already making a substantial contribution. To gain a deeper understanding of these issues, the gardening and landscaping community is joining forces in Nuremberg for the first time under a specific theme: “Working together for a climate-friendly future”. This key theme for GaLaBau 2022 plays a pivotal role in the entire trade fair action and takes shape on site as the GREEN-BLUE PATH. Flags are used to designate the corresponding areas and the stands of those exhibitors showing relevant solutions. There are also pointers in the printed exhibition catalogue, the online exhibitor and product database, and the trade fair app. Additional elements of the GREEN-BLUE PATH include the presentations in the various forums and other programme items about creating a climate-friendly future. Extensive GaLaBau supporting programme
Gain knowledge, network and help shape the future
Alongside the large product range on display, GaLaBau once again offers an attractive supporting programme. The day before the fair, numerous vendors of motorised equipment and power tools will gather for their very own forum and workshop “Motorised equipment specialists in conversation”. The BGL will have a dedicated area in Hall 3A on the theme “The future of green living spaces”. This is also the venue for the GaLaBau Expert Forum, which invites gardening and landscaping professionals to hear 15-minute TED-style talks and presentations on various topics like domestic gardens, public green spaces, regulations and standards, and business management and get involved in the subsequent discussions. The young talent area GaLaBau CAMP offers young landscape gardeners the opportunity to find out about their career prospects, just like the new GaLaBau online and on-site jobs board. At the “Innovation made in Germany” pavilion, which is subsidised by the BMWK (German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action), 30 innovative young companies and new manufacturers from Germany take centre-stage. This is where recently established firms make their first contacts with future customers and present new products and innovations. These include digital concepts and tools for sustainable construction site and building optimisation, innovations for tree watering, laying rolled turf, natural pool care, lighted fencing systems, sustainable compost and water-storing panels for roof greening.
NEW: Digitalisation@GaLaBau – Digital practice live in action
The Digitalisation@GaLaBau Forum will make its debut at GaLaBau 2022. More than 30 presentations and four expert panels will show the positive impacts of digitalisation on a company’s efficiency and productivity. Practitioners from the gardening and landscaping sector present digital strategies and solutions that they have implemented successfully.
Spotlight on playgrounds, golf and tree care
Alongside its new features, GaLaBau 2022 will also feature established formats from previous years. The BSFH (German Federal Association for Playground Equipment and Leisure Facility Manufacturers) is partnering with trade journal “Playground@Landscape” and ISP GmbH (Institute for Sports Facility Testing) to host a special show on the theme “Playgrounds are of systemic importance!” Also included are the GaLaBau Landscape Talks, which will be devoted to knowledge transfer on issues like “Playground safety” or “Movement in the city”. Landscape architects and designers can look forward to practice-driven presentations about the opportunities for the green towns of the future.
Once again, GaLaBau has plenty to offer golf course managers and greenkeepers. At the “Meeting Point Golf” hub, they will find a comprehensive display of machinery and equipment for lawn maintenance, seeds, substrates, and innovative watering systems from exhibitors specialising in the construction, maintenance and management of golf courses.
In the Tree Care LIVE zone, professional arboriculture specialists, tree climbers and anyone else interested in this field can learn more about the needs of the tree in presentations with tips and suggestions on tree care, product demonstrations and discussions. Interested visitors can once again look forward to live demonstrations of “tree climbing” on a special rig.
Outdoor highlights: Landscape Gardeners Cup and demonstration areas
In 2022, this Germany-wide skills competition will once again take place on the GaLaBau lawns. On 15 and 16 September, the best landscape gardening trainees from all German states will come together to put their professional expertise to the test in a bid to become part of the “German Championship Team”.
The demonstration area around the Silbersee lake in Dutzendteich park will once more be a central gathering point for live demonstrations of maintenance and earth-moving machinery on real lawns and soil. And of course, visitors are welcome to try out some excavating, digging or clipping for themselves. As a new feature of the demonstration zones, electric mobility is a key element of the GREEN-BLUE PATH and is concentrated around Audi’s “world-first” charging hub on the exhibition grounds. On the test track, visitors will be able to see the potential of e-mobility live in action with demonstrations of newly developed construction and maintenance machinery and electric-powered municipal vehicles.
